An Iranian passenger plan crashed on Wednesday, killing all 168 people aboard, including153 passegners and 15 crew.

The Russian-built Tupolev plane (Tu-154M jet), operated by Iran’s Caspian Airlines, had taken off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport on Wednesday morning and was traelling to the Armenia capital Yerevan. It is reported to have caught fire and crashed into a farm field about 16 minutes after taking off outside Janat Abad, near the city of Qazvin.

Most passengers on board are Iranians. It is the Iran's worst air disaster in six years. In recent years, Iran has witnessed a series of deadly air crash accidents, many involving Russian-built aircrafts. Air safety experts and observers say most Iranian airlines are chronically short of cash and U.S sanctions against Iran prevented it from updating its aging spare sparts and new aircrafts.
