can I use Sprint / Nextel in Giangzhou ?

I was wondering if I can use my phone there "as is" if I enable international roaming, if I will be able to call back to the USA. I know verizon works, they charge $1.99 per minute :(, since thats what I had last time I was in China, but would anyone here happen to have experience with Sprint / Nextel ? I know I can get a travel phone or just get a sim card while there, but I will need a working phone right when I get off the plane, so that sort of blows those options out of the water. Any advice appreciated Thanks !
