As an official from the Tibetan cultural relic bureau said, the ticket for Potala Palace is a hot commodity in the ongoing tourist boom. The mounting high demand for tickets leads to the ticket scalping syndicate’s illegal ticket reselling. So ID cards (or equivalent of ID card) needed for tourists who want to purchase the tickets for Potala Palace. This is a good effort in cracking down on illegal ticket reselling and protecting the interests of tourists.
