| A Xian-Urumqi train (Train 1043) carrying about 1,700 passengers caught fire in a tunnel on the Lanzhou-Xinjiang rail line at 8:15 on Sunday morning.All passengers on board were safely evacuated. The Train 1043 departing from Xian, capital of Shaanxi Province, was headed for Urumqi, capital city of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The locomotive caught fire when it was passing through the Wuqiaoling Tunnel. The front of the train was 2,000 meters near the the west tunnel exit as it was on fire. The train staff separated the locomotive from the passenger carriages after the accident occured. All the passgeners on board were exacuated. They were safe and sound after walking a long time in the dark tunnel. (A passenger surnamed Fan took the photo with his cell phone: the passengers were evacuated) |
