| Pneumonic plague claimed a third victim in northwest China’s Qinghai Province yesterday, as per the local health administration. The third victim was a 64-year-old man in the town of Ziketan in Xinghai country in the Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The outbreak of pneumonic plague began on July 30 in that town and killed a 32-year-old herds and his neighbor, a 37-year-old man. Nine others were infected and in quarantine. Most of the infected are relatives of the first dead man. Pneumonic plague is one of the deadliest infectious diseases; patients can die 24 hours after infection, according to the World Health Organization. The local government has quarantined the town and its vicinity |
