Hong Kong to Zhongshan to Foshan to Shenzen
Aug 13, 2009 02:40
guestCraig Hello and thank you for a very useful site, we have used it for planning our trip so far...

We are planning to fly to Hong Kong airport, arriving at about 8am then to take a ferry to Zhongshan for a meeting and to return to Hong Kong the same day. The next day we will travel from Hong Kong to Shenzen for another meeting. We essentially have 2 days available for these meetings.

We would now like to include another city in the itinerary. Would it be possible to travel from Zhongshan, after our meeting there, to Foshan for another meeting with enough time? We will be visiting printers and would need about 3 hours per meeting. Instead of traveling back to Hong Kong we could also possibly go directly to Shenzen for the next days meeting.

If you could assist with the best / quickest modes of transport, costs and travel times between the 3 cities we are meeting in it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Hi GuestCraig, sure, if you need to visit those 3 cities, it's certainly better to go Zhongshan-Foshan-Shenzhen, without zig-zag down to HongKong. Regarding the transport modes, it depends... If you go to visit some company/factory, then best way is to ask them to drive you from Zhongshan to Foshan (if they don't offer that already). Reason is that both Zhongshan and Foshan are terribly wide areas, so first you need to know in which sub-city (town, municipality, even village) are those places, actually it can be very near but also very far (I had experienced both, in case of Zhongshan-Foshan trips).

Cheers,
Sasha/Alex

GUESTCRAIG Thank you Sasha,

I have included the addresses of the manufacturers below. I am not sure about asking them to collect us from, or driving us to one of their competitors, we don't want to be rude if you know what I mean.. I don't know if it is a problem or not.

What would be the best mode of transport from the ferry to Zhongshan itself, as well as from Zhongshan to Foshan and then finally to Shenzen? I don't know if there is a ferry from Foshan to Shenzen, or if we should take road transport all the way around the delta. Also how long it might take for each trip and approximate costs. Your help, and anybody else's is greatly appreciated..

The Zhongshan address is: TongMao Industrial Zone, Dongsheng Town, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, China
The Foshan address is: Fuxi Industrial Park, Cheshan, Lishui Town, Nanhai District, Foshan City
The Shenzen address is: Dongfang Jianfu Yusheng Industrial Park, Gushu, Bao'an District, Shenzhen

If you had the money to splurge then it would probably be great to get driven around to all 3 places so that you don't need to worry about getting lost! Other than for Hong Kong -- Zhongshan, I think that would be the fastest.

GUESTCRAIG Thank you for your replies. We have decided not to visit Foshan afterall. We have found another supplier in Shenzen that fits our needs better. Is there a ferry that can take us from Hong Kong or the mainland to Zhongshan early in the morning? Our plane arrives in Hong Kong at about 8am in the morning. We would like to travel back from Zhongshan later in the day, probably also by ferry if possible. We have meetings the following day in Shenzen.

Do you have a multi-entry or at least a double-entry visa for China? You'll need one, if you're planning to do Hong Kong -- Zhongshan -- Hong Kong -- Shenzhen. Otherwise, save on all the shutting around and just go Hong Kong -- Zhongshan -- Shenzhen -- Hong Kong. There's nothing holy about staying every night in Hong Kong.
If you want to go directly from Hong Kong airport to Zhongshan, I don't think there's much point waiting till 1540 for the only ferry departure. Take a bus instead. The company Eternal East has buses to Zhongshan departing at 0825, 0925, 1025, 1125 and 1205. Fare is 250 HKD, journey time around 3.5 hours.

GUESTCRAIG Thank you very much for the information Ellyse. We do have a multi-entry visa. One more question are the more ferrys that go from the mainland to Zhongshan? I think I remember seeing a post about it, but can seem to find it again. We wouldn't want to wait for the 1540 ferry, but if we could go to the mainland and take one from there it could be quicker? Otherwise we will take a bus, although it is quite a long trip compared to ferry

Mainland meaning where? Shenzhen? Guangzhou? Zhuhai? I'm not sure which of these places would have ferry connections to Zhongshan.
Also, if you include the time you spend in transit and waiting, it might not save you much time to insist on going by ferry instead of bus from Hong Kong airport.

Thank you very much Ellyse, you are very helpful. We have decided that it would be best to do our business first in Shenzen the day we arrive in Hong Kong. After all we don't want to travel in a bus for 3.5hrs to Zhongshan immediately after a long international flight to Hong Kong. We will travel to Zhongshan from Shenzen the following day, probably by bus if there is no alternative. Does anyone know if there are ferry's from Shenzen to Hong Kong to avoid a 3hr bus trip, if it is possible?

Yes, there're ferries for Hong Kong airport -- Shekou which take 30 mins, fare 220 HKD. The earliest departure is at 0900, the next two are 1015 and 1100.
For Shenzhen -- Zhongshan, I don't think there're ferries. Bus would take 2-2.5 hours, departing from Luohu long-distance bus station (around every 25 mins 0650--2100) and Futian long-distance bus station (from 0735 to 2025).
If you have any more queries, please email me at yahoo.com|ellyse99 and put "TravelChinaGuide" and your own username (eg TRYST) in the subject line, thanks.
