Hey,
Thanks for replying. I got one reply from a chengdu university student Vickey, who is willing to join in Yunnan. I'm still in the process of finalising my plans.. Am deciding between Yunnan/ Tibet after Beijing. So can you pass me your email id ? I need to know if and how much fees you charge, since you say you are a professional. Since I'm a travelling university researcher I can't afford much on fees for guides.. My travelling is going to be pretty much basic with stay in hostels, and money for food and tickets wherever required.
It'll be great if you can advice me about Tibet travel.. specifically,

- Do I need a Tibet travel permit ? I hold an indian passport, am travelling from singapore.
- Do I need to book train tickets to tibet through an agent ?
- Are there good packages available for journey to/from tibet and stay there for a few days.
- Is 3 days enough to get a basic look around Lhasa and maybe a nearby place/two. I need to leave Beijing on 24th october- return by 30th october.

Hi, sorry for the delay again, just come back from Yantai...
Since you are a researcher, I think we could talk about the fees, but one thing for sure is that the fees for transportation, accomodation should be included. Even though the cost for food is not too high in Tibet, it would be better to be paid...
1. How many of you will go to tibet? One person or more? I'm not quite famaliar with the tour without travel agencies, so I think I'd better ask my friend and then let you know, ok? But I guess if you want to go into Tibet alone, you have to get a permition.
2. Where will you set off to Tibet? Beijing or Yunnan? I suggest you book the ticket from the train station. In fact, you can buy train tickets in advance.
3. I'm sorry but I can't get your point for good packages stay there...
4. If you want to visit some nearby places, you need to get a permit, probably. You need almost three hours to look around the Potala Palace. And I'm afraid of your altitude sickness. It's normal and if it get worse, it would take more or less time. So i can't say...

but some advice: Sunglasses are useful. And you'd better prepare a good health condition for it since it's a very special place with a high altitude. i'll send you a message to tell you my email and the phone number so that you can contact me~~

Hi, as a foreigner, you have to get a permit from the police office. It usually takes 15 days...

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your reply and information. Looks like travel to Tibet needs lot of preperation. Besides as you say, if the permit takes 15 days.. That's too long, makes it impossible for me to get a pass after reaching beijing on 20th. Yes, going through an agency or tour group seems to make more sense in the case of tibet. I'll get back to you.

best,
harish

Hi Harish,

My husband and I are planning to go to Beijing at the end of this year. He is also from India. I am worry that he might be not used to the environment or chinese food down there. Since you are going early, do you mind to share your experience with us after you come back? If anything we suppose to prepare for our beijing tirp, do let us know.

Thanks and enjoy your trip!
