Generally up to 15 or 20 kg per person in economy class, and they don't really count the number of pieces you have unless you have an outrageous amount. If you're carrying any more than 15 kg per person, I think packing lighter would be in order!

Ellyse, please tell me: Can a person travel to shanghai, China on a one-way ticket? One site says that it;s not a problem, but I believe the Embassy site in Washington D.C. said that a person has to have a round trip ticket. I am concerned because my friend will be getting a visa and already has their passport. This is their first time to China and they hope to work there teaching English because they do have a degree so that shouldn't be a problem. What do they need to bring with them to show the officials when they arrive at airport. How long can they stay in China on a Tourist visa? How do they go about getting a work visa? He will be staying with his son who is of chinese descent. Does he need a copy of his son's birth certificate to show that he has a son there who attends the university ? Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Travelgirle1

Chinese immigration don't care if you don't have a return ticket. Airlines are worried about this as they're loath to fork out the cost of flying you back to where you came from if for whatever reason you're refused entry into the country. Tourist visas are usually of 30-day duration, less commonly of 60 or 90-day duration.
