| Hi, I'm an 21 year old Australian living in Beijing and need some visa advice. To get a working visa in Beijing you need a degree and 2 years working experience (basically to be at least 23). I worked at a school before, and I used my agent to get a 9 month residence permit through a university. Unfortunately, now I'm working for another company who can't provide me with a visa. What's my best visa option to stay in China long term? I plan to live here at least three more years. Should I apply for a 6 month F visa? My friend has a year long L visa, is it possible for me to get one in Beijing or Hong Kong? Thanks for your help. |

| Under some circumstances you can work on an F visa...if you are contracted from overseas or if you are working for a business funded from overseas. While otherwise working on an F or an L is not legal, you would normally just be evicted if caught. Many ppl are working on an F visa who probably shouldn't be....I have with the full knowledge of the local PSB Exita nd Entry office. Each office applies the rules as it sees fit - I have no idea about Beijing. You will normally only get a 12 month tourist visa if you have family here, though you should be able to get what is effectively a 14 month visa if you apply in Aus ( I got this recently) BUT you must exit the mainland every 2 months, which is somewhat more expensive in Bj than Guangdong. |
