Can I enter China with a residence permit expiring (will be renewed) in a few days

guest56139 I hold a U.S. passport and have a Chinese residence permit which will expire on Nov. 14 and is ready for renewal. The question is that I am currently in U.S. for a surgery and will fly back to China on Nov 6. Will I have any problem at the customs upon arrival? My company will renew my work permit and residence permit as soon as I am there. I think I can only have them renewed while in China.

Can you explain what a residency registration is? Also I have a friend that is going to shanghai, China as a Tourist. According to information on this site, he can visit his Chinese family but while there he was hoping to work as well. He will be staying with his son & his family. Does he need a letter of invitation from his family stating that, and if he does work there, then what kind of papers will he need to bring with him to be able to work there? His son said that he can get him a job working at the University there, because he already has a degree in teaching. Also he still has to go to Washington D,C. Embassy to get Visa for China. What will he need to bring besides filling out a form and having a passport? This will be his first time to go to China. Thank you so kindly for your help. I know I have a lot of questions here but I'm sure others may want to know as well if they travel to China to visit. Sincerely, Travelgirle1
