Some of the world's top tennis players are in Shanghai this week for the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000.

The number of fans in attendance has been very disappointing.
Many empty seats during the matches.
Does anyone know why the turnout has been so poor?

The ticket price is still relatively high for average working class in China. Tennis remains an event for high-society.

Yes Leopold, this is what I suspected was the reason, but wasn't sure about it.

Hopefully this will change in the future. Ticket prices should come down eventually and more people should be able to afford to go to the matches.
