today i was listening to a chinese couple over dinner. while they talked, it sounded like a beautiful humming and mixture of melodic notes - and i was transported back to china, listening to many people talking while i watched the water at the Summer Palace or some other similar place. i have been learning chinese for a while now, and consider myself intermediate. when i read pinyin, i pronounce everything how it is supposed to be pronounced according to the script, and my friends say i pronounce well... but i feel i dont have that special chinese accent, like a humming. there is a unique way they say their zi, chi, ts, q, etc etc - which makes it sound like a buzzing song. it is very beautiful. so im simply wondering, can anyone give me some tips or ideas to attain a better chinese accent? i want to speak as naturally as possible, and im not satisfied with the fact that my friends think my accent is good... i want it to be fluent.

thanks a lot! i hope someone can help me!

Hi, I think the more you practice, the more fluent you will be. The best way might be find some Chinese friends and try to talk with them as often as you can^-^

there is only rising tone and falling tone(cannot figure the correct word >_< ) in english while there is four tone in chinese, maybe this is why you think chinese speaking like a song.

take care of your tone while reading pinyin may help

maybe we can exchange language from each other?
