Is a police certificate required for a visa?

guest87220 I have a criminal record but I'm thinking of either studying or living in china. If they ask on the application I will of course check "no". However, I've heard that they are going to require police certificates. Is this true? Those can be forged but I'd rather a police certificate not be required.

GUEST87220 can anyone else confirm that you need a police certificate to get a student visa in China now? This two word response really didn't make any sense.
