Moving to Kunming China

guest11828 Hello Expats and Locals,

My husband and I, along with our 3 children will be moving to Kunming China next year from the USA. The kids ages are 5, 8 and 9. I have a million questions, so everyone can help answer them, I'd like everyone's input and opinion.

1. We are looking for a large apartment, I don't care about cost, I really need space ( especially with 3 Kids). So where is a good area with expat neighbors?

2. How is the International school and what is the cost?

3. In general is kunming a nice area, should I be concerned about crime?

4. Is there a metro system, subways, buses and taxis, for convenient use.

We've lived in Korea so am use to Asian living, but what I've seen and read about Kunming it seems totally different maybe not as developed as Korea.

Any responses, will be great.

Liz

GUESTTBAG some good areas to live in are around Green Lake Park and in the northern part of kunming as it was better planned.
Kunming seems to be very safe with a low crime rate. There are plenty of buses and lots of taxis, but can be hard to get sometimes. They have just started building the metro system and the first lines should start to be ready in 2012. Kunming will probably seem less developed than korea, some parts very developed, some not. seems charming to me

GUEST14587 I am originally from Kunming area, it is a very nice city, especially the weather is so nice. I lived in Kunming and worked there for more than 10 years. The public transportation there is quite good, very convenient, but it can be very crowded during the rush hours. Generally it is safe there, but at night or in some quiet small streets, it is better not to go. Be careful about the thieves.

There are a lot of very big apts there. There is the international school there, you can check from the internet and find out the cost. There are also a few very good public elementary schools, too. Good luck for your moving!
