![]() | Andre Agassi's autobiography, "Open" is for sale now. In this book, Agassi admitted that he used crystal methamphetamine during his career but he lied to ATP that he took the drug by accident. Also, Agassi admitted that he wore a wig during his playing days. His flowing 80s style mohawk/mullet was, in fact, a weave. Well, I don’t know why he revealed these secrets in his autobiography. Maybe, he wants his book to be one of the best-sellers in US. And his revelation has led him into controversy. Even Federer and Nadal were disappointed at him over this matter. Federer: "It was a shock when I heard the news. I am disappointed and I hope there are no more such cases in future.... our sport must stay clean." Nadal: "To me it seems terrible. Why is he saying this now that he has retired? It's a way of damaging the sport that makes no sense. Cheaters must be punished and if Agassi was a cheater during his career he should have been punished." However, there was someone who still supported him at home. Andy Roddick said: “Andre is and always will be my idol. I will judge him on how he has treated me and how he has changed the world for (the) better. To be fair, when Andre wrote the reported letter, he was well outside the top 100 and widely viewed as on the way out.” To me, it is really a big shock too. I didn’t imagine that the guy who handed the trophy to Federer at French Open once used drug during his career. ATP should also feel ashamed since they hid this secret. Maybe, tennis is not as clean and pure as we think. As a tennis fan, we will never know how ATP operate the tournaments and some “secrets” will be hidden forever. By the way, if Federe or Nadal was found to use drugs one day, I guess that will be the biggest breaking news. I am praying this isn’t going to happen. PS: quotes are excerpted from the news. |

![]() | Excerpts from Open: "My name, my career, everything is now on the line. Whatever I have achieved, whatever I have worked for, might soon mean nothing," "Days later I sit in a hard-backed chair, a legal pad in my lap, and write a letter to the ATP. It's filled with lies interwoven with bits of truth." "I say Slim, whom I have since fired, is a known drug user, and that he often spikes his sodas with meth - which is true. Then I come to the central lie of the letter." "I say that recently I drank accidentally from one of Slim's spiked sodas, unwittingly ingesting his drugs. I ask for understanding and leniency and hastily sign it: Sincerely." Agassi said the ATP reviewed his case and while he faced a minimum three-month ban for use of a recreational drug, decided to believe his account and the case was withdrawn. "I feel ashamed, of course. I promise myself that this lie is the end of it." About his hair: "I asked myself: you want to wear a toupee? On the tennis court? I answered myself; what else could I do?" But the wig began to disintegrate as he took a shower the night before the Paris final — "probably I used the wrong hair rinse," Agassi writes. He panicked and called his brother Philly into the room. Together, they managed to clamp the wig together using clips and pins. Agassi, 39, writes: "Of course I could have played without my hairpiece, but what would all the journalists have written if they knew that all the time I was really wearing a wig? "During the warming-up training before play I prayed. Not for victory, but that my hairpiece would not fall off. "With each leap, I imagine it falling into the sand. I imagine millions of spectators move closer to their TV sets, their eyes widening and, in dozens of dialects and languages, ask how Andre Agassi’s hair has fallen from his head." ![]() |

![]() | Well, I have to say that he is very brave. Before deciding to reveal these secrets, he must have known that he might be criticized but he still let people know the real Agassi. He was brave to admit his mistakes. Besides, I am very disappointed at ATP. They hid the truth to let us believe tennis was pure but it was actually not. God knows how many secrets they have hidden from us. Anyway, tennis is entertaining. Just entertain yourself! |

![]() | At least, he is honest unlike somebody who made a huge mistake but still tried to hide it. Finally, his family learned this and his wife decided to divorce him. You know whom I am talking about. |

![]() | The ATP has always followed this rule, and no executive at the ATP has therefore had the authority or ability to decide the outcome of an anti-doping matter," the statement said. The International Tennis Federation said it was "surprised and disappointed" by Agassi's revelations. "Such comments in no way reflect the fact that the tennis anti-doping program is currently regarded as one of the most rigorous and comprehensive anti-doping programs in sport," the ITF said in a statement. In the past three years, the organization has begun overseeing anti-doping efforts on behalf of the ATP and WTA tours. Andre Agassi Agassi "The events in question occurred before the World Anti-Doping Agency was founded in 1999 and during the formative years of anti-doping in tennis, when the program was managed by individual governing bodies," the ITF said. |
