New Year's Day is the first day of the New Year. On the modern Gregorian calendar 阳历(yánglì), it is celebrated 庆祝(qìngzhù) on January 1. On New Year's Day, people in certain countries gather 聚集(jùjí) on beaches and run into the water to celebrate the New Year. Countries such as Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, United States and Australia are the most popular for this tradition. The Tournament of Roses Parade 玫瑰花车游行(méiguīhuāchē yóuxíng), which is also better known as the Rose Parade, is America's New Year's Day celebration. It is a festival of flowers, music, equestrians 骑手(qíshŏu), and a college football game on New Year's Day; The New Year's Day Parade 元旦游行(yuándànyóuxíng) is held in London. Performances include acts from each of the city's 32 boroughs, as well as entertainment from around the world. In China, people usually hold some evening party to celebrate New Year's Day. Especially in schools or companies, this is one common way of celebration for Chinese New Year.
