I have checked the forums, but it seems that the rules about applying for a visa keep changing so I thought I would ask to make sure. Some visa agents require a medical form while others do not. The medical checks required for the form would be exorbitantly expensive in America, so I can't imagine that it would be required for a visa. By the way, I am applying as an american citizen and I want to work in jinagsu which I hear has recently become really restrictive when it comes to foreign employment. Any help will be much appreciated.

None of us can give a definitive answer as only the officials who handle your application can.... and there is much variation. However, you should not need to have the health check before going to China. As you say, the cost would be so high compared with what you might earn that no-one would go. I recommend that you complete the first half of the health form, the part that you can answer yourself and leave the rest blank. If a visa agency says you must have the medical don't use it...indeed why use a visa agent at all, except as a glorified courier service if you are not near a consulate.

I cannot comment on Jiangsu but there has been some tightening up on visas all round...it was pretty slack and is still not very tough. Anyway iit doesn't matter as your application will be handled by officials in a US office, the same or all provinces
