GUESTWALTER I am in Beijing on a tourist visa. I have been hired by a company to start work on July 2, 2015 and am waiting for the Piwen and the "Duly Authorized Letter of Invitation". I should have it any day now. Can I apply at the Beijing Embassy for a "Change of Status" or do I have to fly to Hong Kong and apply there which I understand takes at least 4 days to process and I must have the original Piwen, but there are 83 other names on it as well so they only gave me a copy of it. Advice?

You should visit local entry and exit management bureau in Beijing and see if you can change your L into a Z type successfully. According to what I know, those who have short-term visas usually are required to apply outside of mainland China.

GUEST23044 I have been in China working for almost 4 months on a tourist visa and getting no clear answers from my employer about the status of my work visa. I have already done one visa run to HK and dread doing it again. I'm considering giving them an ultimatum; get my Z visa in 30 days or I leave. I'm full of anxiety and anger over this.
My question is, is my employment contract valid if I am not legally working? I do not want them coming after me for flight reimbursement or apartment rental fees because I broke the contract.
Thanks in advance

GUEST08195 Hi, I am currently on a Z-visa category in Shanghai. Unfortunately this is the wrong type of Visa for me since I'm doing a 3-month unpaid internship. I have visited the PSB exit-entry bureau to explain my situation. They have confirmed that my visa is indeed the wrong type of visa. However, they were less than willing to explain what I should do next. Does anybody have any advice over options to resolve this problem or whether it is possible to change from category Z to F?

Thanks!

Ps: I should mention that all the previous interns for my company were issued an F type visa.
