Cost: 399 Chinese Renminbi per person (entrance to temple included) Hidden in the streets of Xicheng district, the little visited White Cloud temple (bái yún guàn 白云观) comes alive at Chinese New Year as throngs of visitors pour into its grounds to pray, burn incense, throw coins and welcome in the new year in true, authentic and traditional Chinese style. Over a thousand years old, the stunning temple will serve as the backdrop for our special Chinese New Year workshop, providing students with a chance to witness and photograph this unique event at one of China’s most important Taoist temples and explore one of Beijing’s hidden cultural gems. Professional photographer, Sean Gallagher, will be on hand to guide workshop participants through how to capture unique moments in crowds, how to sensitively photograph in a religious setting and how to capture the details in the exquisite architecture on show at the White Cloud Temple. At the same time, guide Jessica Zheng will be there to provide you with details about the history of this special location and answer any questions you have about the history of the area.
