Approx 3 week trip to China, need advice.

I need some help, I'm going back to China with my girlfriend this summer, from about July 7th (Arrive July 8 in Shanghai) And I'm going to leave on the 30th or 31st if it's best to spend an extra day than I will. I want to visit all the major sites that are touristy, I am really into history as it is my major in university, but a bit of shopping is good as well. These are my choices in places to visit. Shanghai Beijing Xian Guilin Bascially I would liek to know what you guys reccomend as to how many days to spend in each place. I have been reading the lonely planet guide and this site a lot so I know of the places that I would like to go in each town. Thanks a lot in advance, and if you have any other advice I would love to hear it.
