| guest75185 | I hold Japanese and U.S. passports. I would like to visit a friend in Zhanjiang. I believe I can enter China without the visa because I hold a regular Japan passport... I plan to fly to HK since flying to HK is cheaper than to Zhanjiang airport... Do you recommend a bus or train to Zhanjiang, and where do I buy the tickets once I am in the mainland? |

 | As I understand it you will need a visa. Contact your nearest Chinese consulate in Japan or USA. I agree it is probably cheaper to fly to HK than Zhanjiang. From HK, I think your best route is to take a bus from HK airport to Guangzhou, cost is about 180 rmb I think. From Guangzhou you can get a bus to Zhanjiang cost 160rmb, and it takes about 6 hours. There are three bus stations very close to the main Guangzhou Rail Station, and you should be able to get a bus from one of those. Alternatively, you can get a train to Zhanjiang, but it is not always possible to get a seat/sleeper at short notice.
