![]() | Just became involved for a year with a chinese girl while she was living in Dubai, She wants me to retire in china and marry her once my divorce comes through. At first she was ok but now more and more, money is being mentioned with subtle hints like buying property for her and wanting expensive presents. I think I am being taken for a ride or is every girl like that from china? If I do move will I be able to get my uk pension while living there? Also what income do they expect you to have to get a residence visa? regards |

![]() | First of all no, all Chinese ladies are not like that. Obviously they would like to live a comfortable life and have a secure future, but there are gold diggers of all nationalities around the world. You need to be sure what kind of lady you found. Owning a property is the dream of most Chinese ladies but this does not have to be solely in her name. Be aware that you do not buy freehold in China, property is effectively leasehold. Most are 70 year leases from time of construction but can be less. No one seems to know yet what happens at the end of the lease. Retirement for foreigners in China is also not straightforward. If you marry you can stay on an annual renewable visa. After 5 years you can apply for residency but this is not automatically granted. You may also need to prove you have a reasonable income and health insurance. There is no free medical care in China. UK pension can be paid to expats but will be frozen at the time you leave the UK. Income tax issues can be quite complex. You may still have to pay UK income tax on your pensions and other income. |
