I am traveling to China in two weeks and would like to see Beijing in a day. I am flying into Beijing to help on time. I wanted to know from the Beijing airport, what's the best/fastest way to get to Badaling Pass (to Great Wall) and then after seeing Tianamen Square & Forbidden City (hiring cab driver for the day- saw this recommended, let me know if it's not), the best way to get to the train station to go to Shanghai? In the bus and train stations is everything in Chinese characters?

Appreciate any feedback

Hmm... which station you are going to go? There are several stations in Beijing. To each one, there's subway. And there's English for the subways. So don't need to worry. To the forbidden city and Tiananmen square, there's also subway. I'm saying that because you said you would just stay in Beijing for one day. And sometimes the traffic wouldn't be so nice. So if you don't want to waste lots of time in the taxi, better to take subway. And in two weeks? Is that near to the May day holiday? If so, better to avoid the first three days. Otherwise what you see will be only crowded...

Why only 1 day for Beijing? That's a big rush!
What time would you arrive in Beijing airport?
If you arrive early enough, it's technically possible to see the Great Wall (I'm really not a fan of Badaling though, it's the most crowded and touristy section) as well as Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square in the same day. Then have the driver drop you off at Beijing South train station for an overnight D train to Shanghai.
Most signs are in English as well as Chinese characters, but the English will be in a much smaller font size.
If you've any more queries, email me at yahoo.com|ellyse99 and put "TravelChinaGuide" and your own username (eg Minimar) in the subject line.
