Travel to China next month from Australia

Next month I will be travelling to Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing for work.

Since I work in IT, I will be required to carry a fair bit of electronic equipment - Laptop, camera (video and photo), etc - but the thing that concerns me is USB sticks.

I read some webs to know that Storage media for computers are listed as "Prohibited Items". Does this mean that I cannot take a USB key into or out of China?

Any help would be apprecaited.
