![]() | According to the latest news, IOC announced on April 28th (local time) that Chinese Women’s Gymnastics Group Bronze Medal was revoked since China has allowed the underage gymnast to compete at 2000 Sydney Olympics. This means that the US Women’s Team who had placed the fourth will move up to win the bronze medal. The focus is Dong Fangxiao who was suspected to falsify her age during the Sydney Olympics. After a year long investigation, the IOC has made the decision above. In the meantime, Chinese Olympic Committee has been required to return the medal and Ms Dong’s diploma. Also, her results in the individual floor exercises and the individual vault will be canceled too. Besides, the FIG had already canceled all her results gained in the world championships, world cup series and world cup final in the period of 1999-2000. And there are some other Chinese women gymnasts who are suspected to falsify their ages too. Yangyun once said on a TV program that she was underage at the Sydney Olympics too. Lately, she said that she misspoke. Due to the lack of evidence, the FIG didn’t make any sanctions against her. He Kexin, who won gold medals on uneven bars and as a member of the artistic gymnastics team, was suspected too. As a result of that controversy, the FIG introduced a system by which all gymnasts taking part in any major event must apply for a license. |
