I am going to begin learning either Japanese or Chinese next year and plan to become fluent in whichever I choose. I am currently planning on majoring in economics and getting into international business/trade later in life. The problem is, I can't decide which to choose, Japan or China, for my area of focus. I plan to study abroad in whichever area I choose. I have done lots and lots of digging into each country to try and get a better understanding of each and I plan to go visit one of them this summer.
When looking at modern Japan, I like how I hear a lot about how nice the people are, how clean Japan looks, how they are one of the largest economies in the world beside the U.S., and there are lots of things in The Japan Channel "How To" youtube videos that I find interesting about their culture. I can't seem to find good videos on Chinese culture for some reason.
When looking at modern China, I like how powerful and prosperous they look, although I wonder is they just like to show off with things like their big sky scrapers, the Olympics, and the new World Expo. I find it hard not to get a little caught up in the awe-inspiring things that China seems to be able to do with their booming economy. I haven't been able to find as much info/videos on their culture as I have Japan, probably because we share better relations with Japan.
Any thoughts, opinions, or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I know both Chinese and Japanese. They are a bit difficult to learn than English. I can't agree with what you said about Japan and China since you never step in to these lands. China does not 'SHOW OFF' anything, and japan is not like what you listed above. You may do a good search in this web on Chinese Culture.
You must work hard on such language with perseverance if you plan to become fluent in it. Good luck!
