Hello!
I'm a student spending some of my summer studying Chinese in Hefei, and I noticed the abundance of great (and cheap!) folding bicycles here. I was pondering the feasibility not only of buying one for myself, and trying to ship it back to the US, but maybe buying a few to sell back home as well.
However, I don't know how to even begin to find out about things like shipping costs, export taxes and the like. From what I've gathered online, selling these at the scale I'm considering wouldn't warrant much bureaucratic legwork, and DHL is the best shipping option.
Does anyone have any advice on the matter, or have any suggestions about a better way to do it?
Thanks!

You may ship the stuff by sea. It is cheap but quite slow. If I were you, I would ship via air. Here is the price reference departure from Beijing:
City Minium Fare Basis fare (RMB/kg) Over 45 kg(RMB /kg) Over 100 kg(RMB /kg) Over 300kg(RMB /kg) Over 1,000kg(RMB /kg)
Los Angelus 480 59.61 45.68 41.81 38.79 35.77
New York 480 64.46 48.34 45.19 41.86 38.70
Houston 480 74.07 57.03 50.49 45.38 39.43
Chicago 480 60.63 60.63 53.48 49.24 43.58
Besides, each order is charged extra 50 RMB document fee and 200RMB customs clearance fee (excluding fuel surcharge and war risk)

Find a local person who is involved in export, there are many young persons who speak English who might be interested in doing it as a sideline for a moderate fee. Sorry, I have no contacts in your area.
