We are thinking of planning a trip to China in January 2006 to see the Ice Festival in Harbin. We can be there at any time during that month. Would welcome any advice as to the best time to be there and any hotel suggestions. Thank you.

what kind of hotel are u interested in? luxury or econommic or budget? There are many choices. If u can specify what u like, it would be easier to decide.

To book in advance may be necessary since more and more southerners swarm there for this festival.

We would prefer a luxury hotel if possible. I have tried booking but the Holiday Inn seems to be the only hotel taking reservations at this time. Do you know when the Shangri-la (or other luxury hotels) start accepting reservations for the Ice Festival? We are thinking of flying from Shanghai but I am having difficulty finding nonstop flights from that city. Do they add nonstop flights in January or should I just plan on flying from Beijing? Any information and tips(I know to dress in many layers) would be most appreciated.

I have found out the nonstop flights from Shanghai to Harbin in January.you can reach harbin very easy because there are many airlines.about one flight every hour from 9:00am to 8:40 pm(beijing's time zone GMT+7:45:40)
you can get tickets when you call the number:021-68759944,021-65081733,021-62691268.these are three different companies which offer the sevice of prearrangement. and the price is about 1800yuans,(about 215 dallors),of course, most of time, you can get a discount of 30%. you will spend about 2 hours in the flight trip.
