Hi, I'm a Nepali passport holder, US permanent resident and plan to travel to Nepal en route Hong Kong. I have less than 24 hours transit each way while flying.

Should I apply for a transit or a tourist visa, since my country is listed in the group that needs a visa regardless of exiting the airport.

Also, does anyone know if I can use a visa assitance company to help get my Hong Kong visa in the US? Any idea as to how long it takes?

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

According to rules of Hongkong immigration Department, you may apply for the appropriate visa or entry permit from the nearest Chinese diplomatic and consular mission.

As an alternative, you may also submit your visa or entry permit application to the HKSAR Immigration Department either directly by post or through a local sponsor. To shorten the processing time, application forms and supporting documents can be sent by fax to (852) 2824 1133 in the first instance. However, the original copy of the duly completed application form and the photographs required should be sent immediately to the HKSAR Immigration Department by air mail. A visa/entry permit will be issued only on receipt of an original, properly completed visa/entry permit application form.

The visa or entry permit for visit (or purposes other than a visit) should be obtained before travelling to the HKSAR.

Re Nancymoon's first sentence. I was researching info recently and was aware of the regulation Nancy quotes: I asked in Sydney about visas for HK and Macau for those that need them, and they said they did not handle them! So allow enough time to make a postal application.

It is worth speaking with a visa agency in the US and find what they say... it will be quite expensive, and just to transit. What about an alternative route?
