i am a haitian resident who hold a US green card but i want to visit my girlfriends for the first time and she want me to stay at her home because i want to save money by not booking a hotel room what do i need to say to custom agent so that i may enter china

You just need to apply for a visa. They aren't interested in your housing arrangements!

Yes, you can apply for an L visa, but that can be helpful if your girlfriend can send you an invitation letter which states your relationship with her. Hotel booking or plane ticket is also helpful if any.
