Hi! I will be visiting my son, who has lived in Wuhan the past 2 years. We would like to visit Huangshan, then travel to Wuhan. How difficult is it to travel from Huangshan to Wuhan? Is there a train, or better option? I would greatly appreciate any advice.

There is no train or air plane going directly to wuhan from huangshan. A transfer is needed. If I were you, I would like to travel by long-distance bus. The bus can be taken either at the Huangshan Tunxi Coach Station which is in the downtown area or just in the huangshan scenic area.

Thank you so much for the advice! I really appreciate it. Would you suggest booking the bus tickets in advance? Is it a long trip? (On the map it doesn't look too far, but China is such a huge country.)

i dont think you need to book the tickets in advance. But safer way is to consult the staff at the stations: Huangshan Coach Station: 0559-2353952 Huangshan Tunxi Coach Station: 0559-2566666 The trip takes about 8 hours.

I'd prefer to buy in advance if possible, just in case.

In case anyone else plans to travel from Huangshan to Wuhan: we ended up taking the advice of the hotel staff in the Huangshan scenic area, and took a bus from Tankou town to Hefei, Anhui Province, then a very fast 'D' train from Hefei to Wuhan-Hankou. The train takes about 2.5 hours and was an awesome experience, traveling much of the time at 250 k/h. The bus from Tankou to Hefei was very comfortable, not as fast as the train ( :-) ), took about 4 hours to get to the bus station in Hefei. We took a taxi from the bus station to the train station, I think it cost about 15 yuan. If you do this, be sure to buy the bus ticket at least a day in advance and get to the station 30 minutes early--we got there early and still had the last 2 seats on the bus. You should also buy the train ticket at least a day in advance if not more. We had to spend the night in Hefei because the trains to Wuhan were sold out the day we arrived. That turned out not so bad: there was a pleasant pedestrian zone to explore in Hefei, and an old restored house in the pedestrian zone that was very interesting.
