I have tried the chinese embassies in Turkey and Armenia but both said I have to have a residents card. I'm going to try again in Tashkent which I'm told that I should not need a residents card. Can you confirm this? Also, do you recommend any good companies where I can get a letter of invitation for china? Thanks in advance Damo

NANCYMOON Points: Join Date: Jun 19, 2010 Status: Offline	Hi,MEOLAG The specific regulation is different in Office of different countries. If you are told like that, it is real. Generally, you do not need an invitation letter if you enter China as a tourist.

I have heard several stories of visas not being granted by Chinese consulates from Turkey through the old Soviet countries unless you can show some right of residency there. In fact other Chinese consular offices apply this requirement if they want to block someone. If you find this problem you might like to consider one of the following....
Go to Seoul, HK or Macau and apply there
OR
If you can find a country where you can stay a couple of weeks and not need your pasport, express courier your passport to Eire and have a friend or an agency apply there (pay the urgent processing fee) and have it couriered back to you. I used this option on one occasion. (Warning to persons inside China needing to renew: you cannot do this as you will not have a matching entry stamp).

My info is current to about 6 months ago...it could have changed !
