Hello,

I am here on China for short durations on a business Visa. I work for an Indian software company, which do not have any legal entity in China. I was invited by a client Company registered in China, which is originally an american company.

Now my client wants me to work here for along time. I am sure I can not work on Business visa here and after I stay in China for more than 183 days, I will have to pay tax in china.

what are the options for me ? Do I need to get a work permit ? If yes, what is required as my indian company does not have any registered office in China. In case my client can do something about it ? what if they invite me as a contractor , are they liable to pay taxes for my salary which my indian company will pay ?
Please help.

If you are to work in China employed by an overseas employer you should not have too much trouble. The client company should be able to organise a new Business visa. If they don't know how, they can find out from the local Public Security Bureau Exit and Entry office. It's possible they might insist you reapply from India, or just somewhere outside the mainland..... each office interprets the rules as they see fit. If it seems you are running into problems get the help of a visa agent, it's well worth the money.
