I live in Thailand and I want to travel to China and then take the train to Lhasa and from there to Kathmandu in Nepal. Does anyone now if independent travel is permitted at present, and has anyone any travel warnings and tips. I am a hardy old man who travels alone.

GUESTHAYDEN Sorry, sir, you can not travel to Tibet individually. You need to have Tibet Travel Permits before you entering Tibet. You should entrust an international travel service to handle this for you. TTB permit is obtainable at Kathmandu,Nepal & big cities eg. Chengdu, beijing etc.

The lst info I obtained is that you must travel in a group AND you must fly and only to Lhasa, then you can apply for a further travel permit, but again only with an approved guide.
