The CCTV news says that the on-line train ticket sales in China will be possible very soon. The ticketing system is being debugged. Currently, the Ministry of Railways is tackling one-line payment issue with other 5 banks in China.

If the system is finished, the tourists can buy whatever tickets via the internet. At the beginning, on-line train ticket sales will be conducted on D and G trains. Later, it will be available for all train tickets. And the E-ticket will be introduced to train ticket sales too. Like air ticket, people just need to print it and then use it to board on the train.

Can passengers buy monthly tickets? It is still under discussion. Probably, passengers can buy discount tickets during the off-season in the near future.
