Hi all!

I recently accepted a teaching job in Beijing. My employer said they would take care of work permit and work visa permit and send them to me, so I can get the visa from my embassy here. So I sent them all the relevant scanned documents (including my British passport - also have a Greek one which I didn't sent). 15-20 days later my employer replied that the visa was refused at the electronic screening step, that they did not tell him the reason, and that I have no option to appeal the decision. During those 15-20 days, I was trying to get through to the employer for different reasons, but communication was very bad, not answering emails, saying he was too busy to talk on the phone etc. This behavior made me wonder if he's saying the truth about the visa.

From the information given, does this refusal sound normal to you? (have no illness and the only thing that might be on my British criminal record, was a 1 year driving ban which ended a year ago - could this be reason for refusal?)

If it is a scam, any ideas why my documents would be useful to the employer?

If it was actually rejected, does this rejection make it pointless to apply for jobs in other cities (e.g. Tianjin, Shanghai)?

Any way possible to find out if the documents were actually submitted, and if yes, what was the reason for the refusal? I've tried the british and greek embassies but they say they have no such info on file.

Sorry about the long post, but had based everything on this job, and now I'm left in the dark with no income. Any help possible is appreciated.

Thanks!

GUESTETHAN What is the electronic screening step? Did your employer send the work permit and the visa permit to you? or your visa permit (not the visa application) got refused?

Hi GUESTETHAN,

The visa permit was allegedly refused, so I never received the documents to take to my embassy here for the visa application. The electronic screening step was according to my employer the first step of checking the Chinese authorities make to see whether the visa permit will be granted and according to him it was this step that failed.

GUESTETHAN Oh, I see, maybe the main point is on your employer, he together with his school are not powerful as a big company to hire foreigners. not possibly your problom. (I heard that sometimes the visa officers would check your degree or teaching experience) So, better to ask your passport back, and find another school or language center. There is no way for you to check out whether your documents are submited or not. But don't worry, this refusal will not affect your next application.

I agree with GuestEthan. The driving ban is unlikely to be the issue...but please, don't mention it next time. Assuming you have the core qualifications, which is normally having a BA degree there should not be a problem on your side. It is unlikley to be a scam, simply an employer who has no idea of the system or just hopes to ignore i,....and there are MANY.

Seek out another job...unfortunately you will need to declare that you have been refused a visa as I am fairly sure this will be in their computer system.
