I know this a specific question re: Washington DC visa office; but on their site it says visa is a 4 day turnaround.

I am a foreign national applying for the double entry chinese tourist visa while studying here in DC on a one year J1 visa. Today at the Chinese consular office they asked me to give my cell phone number and said they'll call me when my visa is ready for collection. The issue is they said it will take up to two weeks for my visa!! Anyone know why this is if it is a 4 day turnaround on their website? Are they posting my application it to my national country's Chinese embassy or something crazy?!

GUESTLARRY Did you apply for a visa to Hong Kong or Macao? or mainland China? if you get delayed about your visa application, it may suggest that you did not provide all needed documents, or nothing. Don't worry, at least they said they will issue you a visa anyway. You know, they can reject you application without any explaination. On their website, they just said the general processing time is 4 working days. For many cases, the application may be delayed if they want to check more.

Thanks Larry.

Its a visa for China (mainland). So once you hand in the docs does that mean you get it for sure? What kind of stuff do they usually check on?

Cheers

GUESTLARRY No, TADNK, As I said above, they may refuse your application without any explaination though you have all needed requirements.

What they check are your police clearance, your travel expense and your health. But actually, you are going to aplly a tourist visa, that is the most easy one to get anyway. So, don't worry and wait for it.

I think you will find the issue is that you are seeking a journalist visa. They are very cautious on these.

I'm not looking for a journalist one though! Just a tourist one. I hope I get it... My flights are already booked :-/

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe they are short staffed and busy, hence longer time?
