I know this a specific question re: Washington DC visa office; but on their site it says visa is a 4 day turnaround. I am a foreign national applying for the double entry chinese tourist visa while studying here in DC on a one year J1 visa. Today at the Chinese consular office they asked me to give my cell phone number and said they'll call me when my visa is ready for collection. The issue is they said it will take up to two weeks for my visa!! Anyone know why this is if it is a 4 day turnaround on their website? Are they posting my application it to my national country's Chinese embassy or something crazy?!

Thanks Larry. Its a visa for China (mainland). So once you hand in the docs does that mean you get it for sure? What kind of stuff do they usually check on? Cheers

I think you will find the issue is that you are seeking a journalist visa. They are very cautious on these.

I'm not looking for a journalist one though! Just a tourist one. I hope I get it... My flights are already booked :-/

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe they are short staffed and busy, hence longer time?
