Hello everyone,

We are group of friends planning to visit China in June 2011 as part of our grad trip. We have sort of come up with this naively crafted plan which you can see below. Since we are not sure about the feasibility of the plan, we want to hear from you the experts (at least many of you here). There are also some specific questions at the bottom for which we would like to hear from you all. Just keep in mind that I have had no previous experience of planning or executing a trip. So, this might be very amateurish, feel free to suggest/criticize/correct.

Day 1
• arrive shanghai city

Day 2
• Shanghai museum
• Yuyuan garden
• Bund area (cruise??)
• Nanjing road

Day 3
• Suzhou

Day 4
• Zhouzhang water town (or other water towns)
• Mt Huangshan

Day 5
• Jade Buddah Temple
• Shopping around shanghai city
• Train to Xian (Train Z92/Z93)

Day 6
• Arrive at 10am
• Check-in
• Terracotta warriors/Big wild goose pagoda
• City wall (???)

Day 7
• Mt Huashan

Day 8
• Luoyang (Longmen cave + Shaolin Temple)
• Luoyang to Ankang (Train 20:30 – 06:30 next day – cost $ 36)

Day 9
• Ankang
• Bus back to Xian
• Train to Lanzhou from Xian – (Train 1189/1181 – 23:30 – 07:10 next day)

Day 10
• Check in
• Ta’er Monestery + Dongghan Mosque

Day 11
• Xiahe

Day 12
• Train to Beijing
• 12:50 to 07:30, next day

Day 13
• Check in
• Beijing zoo/Panda house (optional)
• Bird’s Nest
• Summer palace

Day 14
• Tiananmen sq
• Forbidden city
• Other places (Lana temple....)

Day 15
• Great wall (Mutianyu and Badaling)

Day 16
• Rest/shopping
• Flight to Seoul

1) In the plan, any place that you dont recommend??
2) Any important/famous/must visit place we missing? (i know we ought to miss many but just like hear your opinion)
3) Is ankang a nice place to visit in summer?
4) Are we covering enough modern+ancient china?
5) Should we station our luggage in Xian while we travel to Luoyang and Ankang or carry it with us? If at Xian we will have to return to Xian from Ankang before we take train to Lanzhou. Initial thought was not to waste time check-in to hotel as we have only one day for luoyang and ankang.
6)Are there enough time to cover luoyang and ankang? and other places.

Thanks a lot in advance!! Hope to learn from you experts!!!

I’m not an expert but I’ll try to assist you.
Day2: Delete the museum if there is no time. Bund cruise is good.
Day4: Impossible to finish both Zhouzhuang and Huangshan in one day.
Day6: Go to Terracotta warriors first, then go back to downtown area. You can hire a bike to ride on the City Walls. It was a nice experience to me. The night scene of Big wild goose pagoda is beautiful.
Day7: Believe me, climbing Huashan is exhausting. I think you should at least leave a short time for rest.
Day8: Time is tight. Take a later train. Go to Shaolin Temple first then the Longmen Cave. The lights on the mountain are usually opened at 20:00 and the scene is wonderful.
Day9: what are you going to visit in Ankang. It’s not that famous as a tourism site in China. (In case that you delete Ankang, there is direct train from Luoyang to Lanzhou, no need to go back to Xian.)
Day11: not familiar with Xiahe.
Day15: I think you can only finish one of them.
BTW, you have missed some natural landscape scenery. You may also leave time for some unexpected interruptions.
