Hello, I'm Tina and I'm new here. I am hoping to go to China for a year with my sister at the start of next year. We would like to live in a clean, safe, cheap apartment. And an area that has cold winters and not too hot summer! Also plenty of opportunity for shopping and social and cultural activities! What are your ideas on the best places to live? I would love all your input and feedback. I am looking forward to your replys.

I think that Northeast China is your best choice, such as Harbin, Shenyang, Dalian and Changchun. The winer is pretty cold there. In summer, it is not as hot as other places.

Thank you Cherry! Do they all have places to shop and fun things to do? And not too expensive areas? :) Have you been to them all? What's your favorite?

I think Harbin can be described as a bit more than cold in the winters, you are not far from Siberia

Hangzhou is in Southern China. It is humid and hot in summer. It is cooler in northwest China in summer.

Of course there are shopping areas. Fun things? what do you refer to? The living cost in these citties in less expensive than Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other developed cities.

Honestly, I haven't been these cities. My English teacher in college go to Changchun every summer to avoid heat. Indeed, it is cooler in northwest China.

However, it is much colder in winter. Down coat, scarf and gloves are necessary. As Davec said, it is close to Siberia.

Dalian is good. The environment is very clean. You may go to the sea frequently.
