Xi'an is located in Shaanxi Province. You can find the nearest Great Wall on [tcgurl=http://www.travelchinaguide.com/china_great_wall/scene/shaanxi/]Great Wall in Shaanxi[/tcgurl] and [tcgurl=http://www.travelchinaguide.com/china_great_wall/scene/shanxi/]Great Wall in Shanxi[/tcgurl]

However, Great Wall in these two places are not as magnificent as Beijing. If you haven't seen Great Wall, I suggest you go to Beijing to view Badaling, Mutianyu or Simatai Great Wall.

Yes, better go to those walls in Beijing. BTW, Simatai Great Wall was closed for renovation.

It is approximately 3768 kilometers from Xi'an by train.

It is possible. You can take T42, Z54, Z20 from Xi'an to Beijing. These trains arrive at Beijing very early, around 7 to 8 o'clock. Then you can take No.387 or 702 bus from the railway station and get off at Madianqiaodong (马甸桥东). And you can take No.919 at Madianqiaonan(马甸桥南) to Badaling Great Wall.

Here is another way: take No.83 bus from the railway station to Deshengmen(德胜门). There you can take No.919 bus. Deshengmen is where the No. 919 bus initially leaves. Usually, you can have a seat.

Note that there are several routes of No.919. Take a look at this page to learn the details.

The train ticket is not hard to buy in the end of October. But my suggestion is buy it in advance. Then you won't be bothered if any situation occurs.

Except the trains I mentioned, there are some other trains. You may search for them on this page:

By the way, this site offers train ticket booking service. Just check it when you search the rains.

Better go to Deshenhmen to take the bus919. Some of the 919 makes no stop. The ticket price of bus919 from Deshengmen to Badaling is only rmb12.
You can also go to Badaling from Beijing North Railway station by train. It takes about an hour. There is no traffic jam for trains.

GUESTTAN Why not set Beijing as your first destination? You can fly there to visit the Great Wall. After that, you can take train or fly to Xi'an.
