I am traveling from South Africa to Mauritius, to Hong Kong, to Shanghai and then further later this month. My passport has very few blank pages, so every page is very valuable. Since South Africans do not require visas for stays of 30days and under - what regulations are there? Will HK be ok with one blank page only? Further, can i travel to Hong Kong and Shanghai on a temporary passport? Will Hong Kong and China accept visa's in temporary passports? I really hope so!!

GUESTLUKE For South African passport holders, you do not need a visa to Hong Kong up to 30 days for sightseeing or visiting friends. You need to apply a visa only if you are going to live in Hong Kong more than 30 days. Detail information about Hong Kong visa, you can refer to this link: http://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/hongkong.htm
A temporary passport is ok to apply for a visa to mainland China, but it requires at least two black visa pages and the passport should be valid for more than 6 months.

I am not convinced a temporary passport will be acceptable for getting a Chinese visa.

You should have a proper passport with at least 2 blank pages and at least 6 months vlidity at the time you apply.
