When I tasted Suji(素鸡) for the first time, I didn’t know what it was. I just thought it was a meat dish. Actually, it wasn’t. It was a vegetable dish and made from soy bean. Oh my god. I was cheated by its name. However, a great cook can make this dish look like a meat dish. And it tastes like a meat dish too.

The raw material looks like ham. The last one does look like meat dish. What is Suniurou made from?

Dave, it looks like tofu. Suji and Tofu are both made from beans but there are some differences. If you like, I can give you a recipe "Sweet and Sour Suji".

I had some food in a vegetarian restaurant, this was a 'fake' meat dish. Would this have been suji ?
