![]() | Benigno Aquino III, the President of Philippines, said that Manila’s mayor, a recently retired police chief and journalists could be charged over the last month’s disastrous hostage standoff that killed 8 Hong Kong tourists. He said that he will decide whether to approve the charges after government lawyers have studied the lengthy report and he has returned from an upcoming U.S. trip. "We are repairing relations with (China)," Aquino said. My view is: There should be some people who stand out to take the responsibility for the failure of the rescue operation. Then the president decides to find out the “guilty people” and sends China a message “this issue has been taken care of seriously”. If these guys did something wrong, they should have been charged. If not, they are just the “scapegoats”. Just wish that they could learn a lesson from the tragedy. Don’t let it happen again. |

I should say that HK SAR did a good job when dealing with this incident. One thing I haven't figured out is whether the Philippine police killed the hostages mistakenly. The Philippines once said it was possible and then they denied. What is the truth? |
