Visa on arrival in Shanghai for business

guest15878 Hi, I have to fly urgently to Shanghai to close a business deal, and have been told 7 days necessary to get a visa from chinese embassy here (im Swedish, but live in Spain and will be flying from UK directly to Shanghai)is there anyway to obtain visa on arrival in Shanghai (stay will only be 2-3 days max), or will i have to fly via HK and get a Chinese visa there? Any help would be appreciated since its urgent and important...

There is no visa on arrival in Shanghai as such. However there are transit visas allowing a 48 hour stopover which I think you can get on arrival. One problem is that many airlines won't carry you because you have no visa! However to get a tourist or business visa make an application in Spain paying the fast application fee. This can usually mean you get the visa the next day. However there is a problem that in some issuing consulates that you must have residency in the country you apply in.....but as you are in another EU country I would not have thought that would be a problem.

Either way, go (or get your staff to go) to the consulate and make an application and/or ask about your options. The general opinion is that face to face they ill be quite helpful, but phone calls and emails are ignored.
