kunming to chengdu by train

Questions:

A) compared to flying is it worth the extra time, will I see beautiful scenery flash past my window?
B) Does anyone know an online site where I can book tickets in advance? Or do I have to phone?
Any experiances shared would be most welcome.

Many thanks
Mathew

it's gonna take 18 hours and a half all together.Half of day time. Most of view outside of window should be mountains and tunnels.
It'd easy for you to buy air tickets. As for train, you can book at Hotel or buy at railway station.

Can you let me know what you ended up doing? :) I'm thinking of doing the Chengdu to Kunming trip next month.

The daytime trip North from Kunming is quite amazing, particularly when you get close to the border at Panzhihua - you break through the tunnels into deep mountain valleys following the river - I'd say it's definitely worth the trip.
As far as I know, you still can't book train tickets online - I'd book through a hotel or at the station at least a day in advance to get a sleeper for the overnight part.
