Foreigners in China will be allowed to buy only one home in mainland, according to new rules announced by the authorities.

Those overseas buyers who want to buy properties in China must offer statements to prove that they do not have other properties in China. On the other hand, they are required to be employed in the country at least one year before they buy properties.

Overseas companies can only buy non-residential properties in cities where they are registered.

The new laws were announced in a statement issued jointly by the ministry of housing and urban-rural development and the state administration of foreign exchange.
