My question is - Are there any permissions which need to be obtained from the Chinese government for a Chinese citizen to leave China. I have heard something about a Chinese exit visa but can find no information on this. I have all the information for a Australian visa for her. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks

Your Chinese girlfriend doesn't need to apply for exit visa from Chinese government, she can apply for an Australia visa to go to Australia. If you want to make marriage registration in Australia, your girlfriend need to go to a Public Notary Office to get a Single Status Certificate, then go to Ministry of Foreign Affairs or local Foreign Affairs Office to apply for authentication, then go to Australia embassy/consulate in China to apply for authentication of the Single Status Certificate.
