What is the best time to go to Guizhou?

guestann I am fascinated by China Minorities’ culture. And I want to explore Miao and other minorities in Guizhou Province. What is the best time to go to Guizhou? Do I need to take a tour or I can finish it on my own?

I can't speak English and I haven't been to China before. Actually, I am thinking of taking a tour. It is much more convenient. I understand that the price may be a bit higher than traveling on my own.
