![]() | Hello, My chinese girlfriend and me are trying to get visa for marriage in Belgium. I therefor have to do a "declaration of marriage" in my home village in Belgium. One of the documents needed is the "divorce paper" of my girlfriend. She was married before but she divorced in October 2009. This "divorce paper" is in her possession. On all other documents we need (proof of nationality, proof of address, no criminal record ,....) there is not one time mentioned her marital status, if she for the moment is married or not. The person at my local governement in my village now wants a proof that my girlfriend for the moment is not married. According to my girlfriend, in China, when you have the divorce paper in your possession, it means that you are still divorced now, today. If you marry agian, you must deliver the divorce paper to the governement. My question is : "Does an official document exist which says that you are divorced as long as you have got this original "divorce paper" in your possession ? OR does my girlfriend needs to get another proof ("proof of single staus")? MAny thanks for a quick reply |

![]() | Yes, first, your gillfriend needs to go to a Local Notary Public Office in China to get a Certificate of Single Status, second, take the Certificate of Single Status and Divorce Paper to the local Foreign Affairs Office to apply for Notarization, third, go to [tcgurl=http://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/foreign/beijing/belgium.htm]Belgium Embassy/Consulate in China[/tcgurl] to apply for Authentication. At last, the Certificate of Single Status and Divorce Paper are recognized by Belgium government and you can make marriage in Belgium |
